In 1755 Thomas Whitty started making carpets and the town name of Axminster is now known worldwide. Jaffe et fils, makers of Military Plumes and Hugh Fearnley - Whittingstall of "River Cottage" TV fame are a few of the businesses that can be found in the town. The weekly Market Stalls offer a wide selection of produce.The Church of St Mary is the centerpiece of the town.
With excellent rail links to London and Exeter makes Axminster a very popular town with Lyme Regis resort with its Jurassic Coastline continuing towards Seaton and the fossil beach of Charmouth a short drive away.
