Saddles & Paddles is a unique independent business offering a great day out for those that love a little adventure and the great outdoors. Hire a bike to pedal from the city to the seaside, or hire a boat and paddle to the pub! We offer easy, relaxing, traffic free outdoor fun for all ages.

Your journey will start right from our doorstep, whether it’s on the calm canal waters, or the traffic-free, picturesque cycle routes to explore the Exe Estuary. We cater for all ages and provide all the equipment you need. We are also a main dealer bike shop, offering top brands, accessories and bike repairs. 

Saddles & Paddles has been on Exeter Quay for around 25 years and over this time, has built up a strong reputation as the place to go for bike hire or canoe hire. The business is extremely popular with both tourists and local residents, and our position directly on both the canal and the traffic free Exe Estuary Trail cycle route, makes us an ideal location for the hire of bikes and boats.

Please note...

• All boat users must be able to swim 25m unaided, including any children.
• Advance booking is recommended, especially when the weather is good or in school holidays
• Canoe and kayak hire is subject to suitable weather conditions and on occasion, access to the canal is restricted - please check before arrival.  
• A security deposit (payment by card, or retention of driving licence or passport) is required for all hires
• Please arrive 15 minutes before your booking so we can get you kitted out
• Hire agreement forms must be completed by an adult i.e. over 18yrs
• An adult must accompany all under 16yrs in canoes/kayaks.
• Users should use the same common sense with alcohol as if driving.
• You are welcome to leave bags / change of clothes with us while you’re paddling.
• We don’t have changing facilities, but there are public toilets nearby.
